All the signs and hidden looks
Had they made sense to her at all

Bucky lived by the factory

ten doors down lived Catherine

Bucky’s mama was a broken one
full of fire and gasoline
crash and boom and the smoke was gone
left them all for heroin

Prom was over, Cathy slept
underneath a mattress in the gym
all the secrets he had kept
grew into a beast inside of him

Those brown eyes would do him in

Bucky rode on his bicycle
down the street to Cathy’s door
